The Beginning: A Brief History of the Phoenixville Foundry

Phoenixville Foundry Run Down

The Phoenixville Foundry was not always an event venue. In fact, it is one of the most iconic and historic structures in Chester County, which helped to shape the region’s history. The building itself dates back to the late 1800s, when it was constructed for the Phoenix Iron & Steel Company as an iron foundry. It was originally utilized to produce iron and steel castings that contributed to the development of the Pennsylvania Railroad and was home to innovations like the Phoenix Column that changed the construction industry forever. When the steel industry collapsed in the 1970s, the building was abandoned for years. Not wanting the history to be forgotten, the Phoenixville Area Economic Development Corporation (PAEDCO) took over the abandoned building in 1998 to restore it to its previous glory, creating a museum to foster the stories and artifacts that contributed so much to Chester County’s history. Then, in the early 2000s, the building was purchased by The Hankin Group, who had a vision to turn the historic structure into an industrial chic event venue, encapsulating the history while adding modern features for current celebrations. That’s when the Phoenixville Foundry we know and love today was born.

Today, the Phoenixville Foundry serves as a wedding and special event venue where many couples begin their marriage journey and celebrate this milestone moment in their lives. During construction, The Hankin Group seamlessly combined the timeless historic features that give the Foundry its rich character with contemporary accents that breathed new life into the venue for this new phase in its history.

Another feature of the current Phoenixville Foundry is the Heritage Center. This quaint museum is located adjacent to the Cupola Ballroom on-site to provide an overview of the history of the region and the venue. Many wedding guests choose to explore the museum during the event to experience Chester County history for themselves!
